Simply mix those ingredients to create your butter mixture, then add 1-2 tablespoons into a heatproof mug, add 2 oz of bourbon on top, fill with hot water, and stir until the butter mixture has dissolved.

You can buy mulled wine already prepared or make your own. To make your own you need a bottle of red wine, ¼ cup of bourbon, ¼ cup of honey or maple syrup, an orange, a lemon, two cinnamon sticks, 6-8 whole cloves, and 3-4 star anise. Heat the red wine on a stove, adding the bourbon and honey or maple syrup, then add the rest of your ingredients stirring throughout. Do not let the mixture reach a boil but ensure it is heated thoroughly, simmering for approximately 20 minutes.
